Pretoria - Petro de Luanda beat FUS Rabat from Morocco this Thursday, by 89-86, after having lost to this same opponent in the opening round by 73-82, in the Kalahari conference of African Basketball League, which is taking place in Pretoria, South Africa.
In this match of the fourth and penultimate round of this phase of the continental competition, played at the SunBet Arena pavilion, Petro de Luanda were already leading at half-time, by 46-34.
Unlike the previous game, this time the Angolan champions entered the court offensively and in the first three minutes they were leading 9-4, but the opponent quickly recovered and there were three draws on the scoreboard (13-13; 16-16 and 18 -18).
Opting for zone defense and with point guard Aginaldo Neto and Childe Dundão on the court, Petro forced the opponent into a “crisis”.
It can be said that the Angolan representative had the game under controle for a while, as they allowed the opponents to recover a 20-point deficit (75-57).
In the final stretch, Petro lost its rigor, especially defensively, and the Moroccan team from FUS bet offensively, losing by just three points (89-86).
Childe Dundão, with 25 points, was the best scorer, followed by Aboubakar Gakou, with 21.
Despite the defeat, FUS de Rabat leads the competition, with 7 points, against 5 for Petro de Luanda.
However, the two teams are already qualified for the final phase to be played from May 24th to June 1st, in the city of Kigali (Rwanda), which will include representation from the Sahara and Nile conferences.
