Luanda – Petro de Luanda senior men's basketball team leave Friday for Cairo to compete in the African Basketball League (BAL), to take place from April 26 to to May 6 in Egypt.
The Angolan champions, led by José Neto, will be competing in the Nile conference, the team have been bolstered with signing of several players some of them former BAL champions by Monastir of Tunisia, namely the point guard Souleyman Diabate (Côte d'Ivoire) and power forward Ater Majok (Sudan).
The Sudanese power forward Ater Majok, who arrived in Luanda last week, is the only one who did not play in the national championship due to the rules of the competition, which allows the registration of two foreign players only.
The other big signing was the American power forward Damian Hollis, who was a key element for the team to regain the championship title.
The Angolan team that were the runners-up in the last edition of the BAL, will face Al Alhy (Egypt), Cape Town Tigers (South Africa), Ferroviário da Beira (Mozambique), City Oilers (Uganda) and Slac (Guinea).
In their first participation, in 2021, Petro de Luanda fisnidhed in the third place. In 2022, they occupied second place.
