Luanda – Petro de Luanda is looking for new partnerships and launches, in 2023, the Financial Autonomy Project (PAF), which aims to reach close to 20% of what is transferred annually by the founding partner, Sonangol.

The project is also the result of the country's social situation, in which the club's board of management aims to prevent against any surprises that may happen, ANGOP learnt from the club's association.

It was decided to launch the programme, where before a national campaign for new members and improve the database and transform all supporters into members and monetize it and therefore bring new collective and individual partners.

Speaking to ANGOP, the head of the commercial and new business department, Sidónio Malamba, said that the intention is to relieve part of the budget made available by the national oil company (Sonangol), without specifying the amount.

 “This is a little of what has been happening in our country, the slowdown of what is the contribution of the State in sports. Petro decided to put a financial autonomy project up”, he said.

He added that the steps taken so far include changing the department of association, communication and marketing and turning to a more commercial aspect, reason why the build up of a new area, the commercial and new business department.

“We have to go after future partners and put into practice what is programmed and achieve financial autonomy”, he argued. He appealed to members to contribute to the club and settle their fees, as a way to safeguard the successes achieved so far in national and international competitions.

According to the head of the Luanda's emblem, it currently has 1,120 members, of whom only 250 have settled the fees.

Founded on January 14, 1980, Petro’s mains sports include football, basketball (men's) and handball (women's).

Other categories include athletics, cycling, gymnastics, roller hockey, karate and sailing.
