Luanda – Petro de Luanda signed the North American shooting guard, Jarron Cumberland, to reinforce the senior men's basketball team in the 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup, taking place from the 12th to the 15th of this month (Sept), in Singapore.
According to Petro's communication office, the 25 year-old player is already training with the team in Spain, and the contract is only valid for the international competition.
He is the third American player to reinforce Petro de Luanda, after Nicolas Faust and Patrick Gardner.
Jarron Cumberland is a player for the Delaware Coats of the NBA G League and played college basketball for the Cincinnati Bearcats.
As a professional, he has also represented the Víboras do Vale do Rio Grande (2021), the Raptors 905 (2021), the Portland Trail Blazers and Caballeros de Culiacan (2023).
In Spain, the reigning national champion participates from Thursday in the Lugos tournament, facing FC do Porto in their debut, at 4:30 pm.
In the three friendly games played, Petro lost all to the Spanish teams of Coviran Granada (67-80), Zunder Valencia (84-93) and Fuenlabrada (75-84).
