Luanda – The National Football Team arrived Thursday in Côte d'Ivoire from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where they carried out their preparatory training ahead of the start of the African Championship (AFCON'2023).
The national team, whose first match is scheduled for Monday (15) against Algeria, were welcomed at the airport by Angola's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to that country, Domingos Pacheco.
According to a statement from the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), the delegation will travel to Bouaké later today, where they will play in their group (D) made up of Algeria, Mauritania and Burkina Faso.
The FAF statement says that, given the 20-hour journey from Dubai to Abidjan, via Accra, the national team will only resume preparations on Friday morning (12).
In the two friendly matches held during the last stage of preparation, the Sable Antelopes (Angolan squad’s name) beat Bahrain 3-0 on Wednesday, in a game played at the Dubai Police Club Field, with Mabululu, who scored twice, and a goal from Núrio Fortuna.
The continental competition was due to take place in 2023, but due to the heavy rainfall in the region, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) moved it to this year.
