Speaking on behalf of the minister of State for Social Affairs, Dalva Maurícia Calombo Ringote, at the opening act of the 3rd conference of the Angolan Women in Sports Association (AMUD), said that physical activity also enables studies and advances in the universe of knowledge.
To her, this social action has been increasingly known as a vehicle for promoting well-being, health, cultural dimension and social cohesion, democracy, equality and solidarity, adding that regarding “Women and Sports”, Angola has taken important steps and had in the last decades a historical-evolutive path.
She said that this bet resulted in a significant increase in the number of women in high performance sport and, as a result, a greater participation ahead of important decision-making structures in the public and private sphere.
He added that, despite these valuable achievements, there is the awareness that there is still a long way to go, mentioning AMUD as one of the partners in the scope of encouraging women to practice sports.
The event is attended by more than a hundred guests and a range of national and foreign lecturers, highlighting the Chairman of the Olympic Committee of Cape Verde, Filomena Fortes, as well as the Chairman of the Olympic Committee of Angola, Gustavo da Conceição.
Among the topics to be addressed, the minister of Social Action, Family, and Promotion of Women, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, spoke about “Gender equality policies and the alignment with sustainable development goals”.
This was followed by the first round table on “Obstacles and challenges overcome during the sports career and its insertion in society”, a panel which observed a testimony of different sports personalities, such as Palmira Barbosa and José Armando Sayovo (former athlete of adapted athletics).
The AMUD conference will run until Saturday under the motto “Inspiring Young Women to Practice Sport”.
