Luanda - The new chairman of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Alves Simões, who was sworn in on Monday, in Luanda, highlighted the development of futsal and beach football in the four-year period 2024-2028 as a priority.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Currency Museum, in the country's capital, he stated that the reproduction, expansion and development of those sports will receive more attention and monitoring.
He added that these sporting disciplines play a strategic role in boosting and strengthening Angolan football, which also includes women's football and community football, which although it existed, its development required more efforts.
The new Federation manager said that he will also be focused on working with urgency in the women's and men's youth football, referring to the foundations of his mandate. He promised to work unconditionally with clubs, coaches and judges associations and other agents of society involved in the policy process.
“The objective is to obtain solid structures and development programs that allow identifying and nurturing talents in all provinces with the promotion of stronger competitions”, he said.
Regarding the officialization of the football league official, he considers its implementation urgent, for reorganization and valorization, due to the investments made by clubs in the National Championship (Girabola), whose profits are zero.
In his opinion, the league will require greater responsibility to put at the same level with major African club competitions. Among several plans, he mentioned that transparency will be a non-negotiable pillar during his mandate time.
“The resources allocated to football will be managed responsibly, ensuring that each action reflects the commitment to ethics and sporting values, to maintain the trust of members and international entities”, he stressed.
Alves Simões replaced Artur Almeida e Silva in the position, whom he beat by 128 votes, compared to 114, after the election held this year, while the third candidate, Norberto de Castro, obtained just six votes.
With a team made up of 30 members, the former chairman of Interclube will be assisted by eight members, namely Adão Costa, José Macaia, Manuel Silvestre, Nivaldo Fragoso, Paulo Magueijo, as well as the former players Carlos Alonso “Kali”, Aurélio Soares and Irene Gonçalves.
The General Assembly board is chaired by Francisco Neto, assisted by Fernanda António (vice-president) and Isabel Wedeingue (secretary).
