Luanda - Angolan swimmer N'Hara Fernandes surpassed her personal time Monday after clocking a time of 35 sec 50 tenths out of a total of 58 competitors at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Netanya, Israel.
The Angolan athlete finished 36th in the 50m breaststroke, beating her previous mark of 36.39, set in the 2022 edition.
With this record, the swimmer also lowered the time of 37.02, with which she won the silver medal at the African Zonal IV, held in May this year in Luanda.
Carlota Silva, who made her first appearance for the national team, finished 59th out of 63 opponents with a time of 1:14.11 in the 100m backstroke.
The other Angolan representative Nyriam Morais finished 61st, clocking 1:14.45, beating her previous performance (1:15.85) at the 2022 World Championships in Peru.
In the men's team, David Padre, who finished 57th in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:33.40, out of 61 competitors, improved the time of 4:37.47 with which he won silver at the National Championship in June.
In the 100 backstroke, Angola was represented by Yusseni Furtado, who finished 51st out of 60 swimmers with a time of 1:04.12.
In the 100m breaststroke, the country had José Cochofel, who took 50th place with a time of 1:14.35, as well as Janel Tati, who came 52nd with a time of 1:15.95. Despite beating their marks, their performance was not enough to reach the semi-finals.
The National Team will compete again Tuesday in the 100m freestyle with N'hara Fernandes and Carlota Silva, in the same series (2), while in the 800m freestyle category the country will be represented by Jasmine Lourenço.
On the men's side, Enzo Anjos and Yusseni Furtado will compete in the 100m butterfly, David Padre and Janel Tati in the 200m freestyle and José Cochofel in the 200m freestyle.
Angola is making its fifth appearance at an event of this kind, following participation in the United Arab Emirates (2013), Singapore (2015), Budapest, Hungary (2019) and Peru (2022).
