Luanda – Individual sports, mainly combat, benefit from a clear commitment by the Government for consecutive achievements in international competitions.
According to the Secretary of State for Sports, Paulo Madeira, combat modalities have made Angola proud with regular achievements.
Speaking at the ceremony of official handover of the national flag to the judo team, held at Sports Gallery on Monday, in Luanda, he said he was confident of good participation.
The judo teams will compete in the African Championships for cadets and juniors, for both genders, from the 15th to the 18th of this month, in Yaoundé (Cameroon).
“Take the pride and strength of Angola. We trust in your ability to overcome and we believe that you will honor our country in this great challenge”, he stressed.
For the president of the Angolan Judo Federation, Hermenegildo dos Santos, the guarantee of winning medals is related to the fact that Angola competes for the 3rd consecutive year in the event.
“We have an experienced group of athletes who have made the transition and know how to perform in this type of competition in order to win medals", he reiterated.
The team's captain, Joaquim Luís, indicated that the commitment of his colleagues throughout the preparation stage grants hope for a decent performance.
“When we fight, it is for all Angolans and we will not compromise, believe us”, he said.
The Angolan delegation is made up of 31 athletes, including 13 cadets and 18 juniors. WR/MC/CF/DOJ
