Luanda – A sports development program for social inclusion, named “Special Olympics”, was launched this Sunday, in Luanda, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD), as part of the National Sports Day, which was celebrated last Sunday.
It is an international training program and recreational tests for people with intellectual disabilities, which Angola, through ministerial means, joined to continue to guarantee special attention to citizens of this group, aiming at their integration into society.
The Sports minister, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, announced the creation of an Installation Commission for the emerging of the “Special Olympics” in the country, a movement initiated in 1968, in the USA.
She mentioned that it was the largest inclusion initiative, through sports, applied in more than 200 (two hundred) countries, with more than four million amateur athletes of all ages.
The goal is to participate in the Specialty World Games (Moscow 2023), an event in which athletes with intellectual or cognitive disabilities in 35 modalities, including football, basketball, athletics and wrestling, participate.
