According to a note from the Ministry to which ANGOP had access, the first element to note was the squad’s qualification with merit when there were still two rounds left before the the end of Group F mtaches.
Another element, reads the note, is the fact that the national team finished the group stage without defeat, demonstrating consistency and determination and achieving the highest score ever in a qualifying stage with 14 points.
Rui Falcão stressed that the results are a testimony to the hard work, competitive spirit and dedication of the technical team and players, who deserve the respect and praise of all Angolans.
He informed that for now they have a year to prepare based on seriousness and ambition to participate in the next African Cup of Nations, where the objectives will be greater.
“At the same time, we will direct our attention to the qualifying phase for the 2026 Football World Cup, which resumes in March next year. Our ambition is clear as we also want to be present at the next World Cup”, he highlighted.
The minister reiterated that the Angolan government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to support Angolan sport, ensuring the necessary conditions to obtain more victories and boost Angola's name in major international events.
For the biggest football sporting competition on the continent, which debuted in 1996, in South Africa, the Angolan team qualified for the tenth time.
Since then, Angola reached the quarter-finals in three moments, namely in 2008 (Ghana), 2010 (Angola) and Ivory Coast (2024).
