Luanda - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, admitted Friday in Luanda the possibility of hearing the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) on the alleged lack of financial support from the state to the Angola national football team to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d'Ivoire.
The former minister, Palmira Barbosa who was speaking to the journalists at the transition ceremony, at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD), said that she would take contact with the process and only then decide.
The subject of the alleged lack of support arose when, on the eve of the continental tournament, FAF president Artur Almeida told the press that the national team had qualified with borrowed funds.
The FAF leader also added that until the start of the CAN`2023 the federation had only received a fifth of the amount approved for the event, where Angola reached the quarter-finals.
In reaction, MINJUD issued a statement contradicting the position of the national football governing body, adding that at least 1.4 billion Kwanzas had been made available for the CAN2023 operation, as well as other additional amounts before and during the event.
With regard to his action plan, the new minister said that the first actions would prioritize dialogue with those involved in sport, with an emphasis on national federations, provincial associations and communities.
The newly appointed minister said he will meet with officials from his department next week to analyze sustainable projects aimed at developing the youth and sports sectors in different areas.
Rui Falcão is the 10th Minister for Youth and Sport in the institution's history.
