Luanda – Study of the “dossiers”, open dialogue with the main collaborators and a lot of work is what the minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, proposes to do in these first days of her mandate.
Speaking to the press, after officially receiving the sector’s portfolio from the previous incumbent this Tuesday, at the ministerial headquarters, in Luanda, the former handball player said that she still needs to know the real situation of the sector and learn to later define strategies.
“It's not easy for me. It's a completely different activity and I need help. My management will be like: if I don't know, I ask”, stressed the former captain of the National Team, who wishes not to defraud the trust placed in her. Aware of the hard work that awaits her, she said that her actions will build on the continuity of what has already been done by the previous incumbent, from whom she expects full
support.
On the occasion, the previous head, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto – who is now at the helm of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion - said that she leaves the institution with some issues pending, but organized.
Regarding the pending issues, she pointed out the restructuration of the the 11 de Novembro Stadium (Luanda) and the public tender for the attribution of private management of the same infrastructure built on the occasion of the African Football Championship (CAN`2010).
Elected in 1998 as the best player of all time by the African Handball Confederation, Palmira Leitão de Almeida Barbosa is the second woman to hold the position, after her predecessor (2017-2022), also a former handball player.
Palmira Barbosa, who has already been a deputy to the National Assembly for the MPLA bench, was appointed minister last Friday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, as part of the general elections on 24 August.
