Minister of Education considers school sport a resource for health promotion

Uige - The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, on Saturday considered school sport as a resource for the promotion of people's health and well-being, becoming fundamental for the promotion of physical education in the educational process.

Luísa Grilo made these considerations at the opening of the XII National School Games, which run until the 24th of this month, in Uíge, under the motto 'School Sport: a commitment to everyone to build a culture of inclusion and without violence'.

She recognized that sports competition is an exercise that calls for attitudes and behaviors that praise solidarity, mutual respect, team spirit, discipline, fair play and the strengthening of friendship.

She recalled that school games aim to encourage the practice of sports and educational activity, promote school inclusion and contribute to the integral development of the student in its autonomous, democratic, participatory dimension and stimulates the full exercise of citizenship.

'It is through physical education and school sports that we can develop habits of healthy coexistence and eliminate the phenomenon of violence,' she said, adding that the school should be a place of culture and peace.

The government official said that actions are underway aimed at the revitalization of school sport, in order to emerge talents for the development and affirmation of sports skills in domestic and world competitions.

In turn, the provincial governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, asked students to promote Angolanity and exchange during the competition period.

More than a thousand athletes from the 18 provinces of the country are participating in the event which, among other sports, includes soccer, handball, athletics, volleyball and basketball.

In the opening game, the women's football team of the province of Uige, lost to the counterpart of Huíla, for 1-0. NM/PBC/DOJ
