Lubango – The new president of the Provincial Taekwando Association, José Manuel de Freitas, defined as a priority, for his 4-year term, the expansion of the modality in the training levels and the promotion of competitions in the 14 municipalities of Huíla.
In an interview today, Monday, with Angop, in Lubango, the former athlete of the Clube Ferroviário da Huíla, elected on Saturday, said that his consulate will invest in the technical-professional training of referees and establish links with the business community to mobilize support aimed at promote the modality.
“Our challenge is also to create a high-performance center to encourage young people to take up the practice in the region”, he announced.
He highlighted that in 2020 the sport lost its luster due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which hindered the outgoing management, a situation that is intended to be reversed.
Since 1995, the Taekwondo association in Huíla has participated in national and international championships, with Benfica Petroleum do Lubango being the best team with 13 medals won.
In 2023, Huíla was represented by three athletes in the African and Pan-African championships and won three medals.
The sport's association controls 16 teams, 13 of which voted in favor of the only candidate and 3 prefered to abstain. JT/MS/CF/DOJ
