Ombadja – One hundred martial arts athletes participated in the 1st Edition of the combat marathon, in the municipality of Ombadja, Cunene province, with the aim of encouraging the practice of different disciplines in the region.
The marathon, which took place over two days, involved athletes at senior, junior and cadet levels, from the municipalities of Ombadja, Cuanhama and Namacunde, in capoeira, karate, boxing, jiu-jitsu judo, Greco-Roman and professional wrestling.
The activity promoted by the Ombadja Municipal Fighting Association took the form of friendly matches and confrontations, demonstrations and other non-competitive aspects.
Speaking to ANGOP this Wednesday, the president of the Ombadja Municipal Fighting Association, Nicolau Makango, said that the event essentially aimed to present the sporting potential and modalities practiced in the province.
He explained that the potential of the athletes was demonstrated, hence the importance of paying more attention to the clubs, as a way of increasing the development of these sports.
Nicolau Makango said that this marathon also served to encourage support from interested organizations, in order to prepare the teams to participate in national and international competitions.
For his part, the municipal director of free time, youth and sports in Ombadja, Magnalo Mendes, praised the association's initiative for its work to promote and revive the sport.
Magnalo Mendes called on the business class to provide more support to clubs with sports materials in order to encourage the practice of different sports.
The 2nd Edition of the marathon, which will take place in 2025, will cover the municipalities of Cahama, Namacunde and Cuanhama. PEM/LHE/MC/CF/DOJ
