Luena – A total of 107 athletes, from different sports, were qualified to represent the province of Moxico, in the 3rd edition of the Regional School Games Championship, taking place from the 1st to the 12th of April, in the city of Dundo, province of Lunda-Norte.
The athletes were selected after the conclusion, on Sunday, of the provincial phase of the school games, dominated by schools in the province's main municipality, best athletes in five sports, namely basketball, gymnastics, volleyball and athletics, in both male and female.
The municipality of Luau came in second place after winning two sports, namely football (men's) and handball, for both genders, in a competition that involved 177 students from eight of the province's nine municipalities (with the exception of Alto Zambeze, which failed for unknown reasons).
When intervening at the closing ceremony, the head of the General Education department of the Provincial Education Office, Hermenegildo Simão, encouraged greater commitment and determination to the province's representatives in the competition, having highlighted the importance of school games in promoting physical health and well-being of students.
The province of Moxico has already won five gold medals in women's handball, men's football, men's basketball and athletics, won in the 2nd edition of the regional phase, which it hosted in 2020.
