Luanda - The National Wrestling Team, in both sexes, returned to the country, on Friday, with nine medals won at the African Championship, held in Alexandria, Egypt.
Thus, the federative objective of improving the eight medals won in the 2023 edition, in Tunisia, is achieved.
With a group of 17 athletes, the Angolans won one gold, three silver and five bronze. In the Greek Roman Wrestling competition, Angola came in fifth place, among 17 countries.
In Olympic wrestling, the national team finished eleventh, among 21 teams. The gold medal was won in the 65kg category by Manaceu NGonda, while the three silver medals went to Josette Mavungo (69kg), Makaya Katendi (51kg) and Roberto Nsangua (86kg). Bronze medals were won by Bofenda David (55kg), Francisco Kadima (77kg), Miguel Vata (61kg), Sofia Vemba (65kg) and Makaya Katendi (51kg).
Of the 17 athletes who participated in the continental competition, only 13 returned to the country, with four men and one woman competing in a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Paris (France), which ends on Sunday (24).
