Angola elected to ANOCA Executive Committee

Luanda – The Angolan Marcelina Kiala Eduarda was elected member of the Executive Committee of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), for Zone 5, during the body's General Assembly.

The meeting of the continental organization was held on the 21st and 22nd of the current month in Lilongwe, Malawi, and elected the former handball player from the national team to the post.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Angolan Olympic Committee (AOC), Angola was also represented at the Assembly by the chairman of that national body, Gustavo da Conceição.

The event included the election of the new chairman of ANOCA (Zone 5), as well as members of the executive body for the 2024-2028 term.

In addition to Angola, delegations from Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Eswatine, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi took part in the event.

The sports leader was born in Luanda on 9 November 1979 and is currently vice-chair of the AOC.

Marcelina Kiala is considered an icon of women's handball in the country. She is the older sister of players Luísa Kiala and Natália Kiala.

The former midfielder, who she stopped playing in 2014 at the age of 34, joined French 1st League side Dijon in 1999. She competed in the 2005 and 2007 World Cups and in 13 African Champion Clubs Leagues.

Marcelina Kiala, won 15 national championships, seven African Nations Championships and took part in the Olympic Games twice, between 2000 and 2012.
