Luanda - This Wednesday's general approval of the Anti-Doping in Sports Law brings Angola into compliance with all international instruments, on the same level as all countries that have adopted the principle of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Speaking to ANGOP in the Province of Luanda on the law, the president of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), Gustavo da Conceição, said that the country has signed up to various instruments such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convention and the World Anti-Doping Code, so it has to act in line with the members of this class when legislating the instrument that fights drugs in sport.

The former basketball player said that with this law, Angola, despite being up to date, will be forced to share a lot of information about doping.

A minimum number of tests to be carried out regularly and the preparation of a number of professionals with expertise in the field are other obligations that will come into play in this process which, as well as looking after the health of athletes, makes sport more democratic and individual.

To him, it is a more serious moment, which will require the creation of the Anti-Doping Agency which should be autonomous and responsible for the costs of paying for tests collected in the country and processed abroad.
