Luanda – Angola national Judo team are due to compete in the "African Open" to take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on November 19 and 20, qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Angola will be represented by Sónia Lourenço (- 52kg), Jeovana Freire (-57kg), Diassonema Mucungu (-63kg), Pedro Edmilson in -66kg, Maria Niangi (-70kg), António Candeeiro (-73kg), Severino Gabriel (-73kg), Crislayn Rodrigues (+78kg), Adriano Tchissende (-90kg) and Piter da Silva (+100kg).
Early in the week the national team won nine medals, including three gold, one silver and five bronze, occupying the first position in the Dakar Open.
Diassonema Mucungu (-63kg), Pedro Edmilson (-66kg) and António Candeeiro (-73kg) won gold medals, while Maria Niangi (-70kg) won silver.
Sónia Lourenço (- 52kg), Severino Gabriel (-73kg), Crislayn Rodrigues (+78kg), Adriano Tchissende (-90kg) and Piter da Silva (+100kg) won bronze medals, while Jeovana Freire (-57kg) was fifth in its category.
The national team are led by Antónia de Fátima "Faya".
