Luanda - Angola climbed 14 places in the ranking of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation from the 36th to 22nd position, thanks to a sustained development being implemented over the last decade.

This was made possible thanks to contributions made to the development of the fighting sport in the country, Africa and worldwide, in terms of mass promotion, training of trainers and referees, in addition to sports results and holding of international competitions.

Angola has currently three referees accredited by the international Federation.

Recently, in the World Championship, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 39 athletes represented Angola in three styles, among 69 countries.

The result was a third place (bronze medal) for the team, with a victory over Morocco, by 5-2.

The country won six individual medals, three in fighting and the same number in ne-waza having received a trophy in recognition of its contribution to this combat sport.

The highlight of this participation in the world was the gold medal won by Heliane Caio in the  +70 kg junior category.
