Jemima Paulo wins African Chess Championship for second time

Luanda – Angolan Jemima Paulo won Tuesday the African individual chess championship after defeating Ethiopia's specialist, Brhane Gebratsadik, in the 5th round of the competition held in Egypt.

With two wins and a draw, the Fide master of the Dritrov School now occupies the 17th position, with 2, 5 points.

The other Angolan representative, the International Master (IM) Esperança Caxita tied with Algeria’s Diana Abdi in the same round, currently occupies the 12th position of the rank, with three points.

The Fide Master Ednásia Júnior, who was not paired in this round, occupies the 29th position without any points.

The event, which takes place in a round-robin tournament , starts Saturday and ends on May 13.

At least 18 countries are taking part in the event, 32 women and 70 men.

Besides the trophy, Angola still has the objective of accumulating points (coefficients) to achieve the first Grand Master title, with MI Esperança Caxita.
