Luanda – Angola’s Interclube have selected the 12 athletes to participate in the FIBA Africa Women’s Champion Clubs Cup, to be held on December 8-10 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The players are Italee Lucas, Cácia António, Eduarda Gabriel, Nadir Manuel, Edvânia Pascoal, Ana Agostinho, Jessica Malagi, Luísa Tomás, Alexis Tolefree, Sherise Williams, Cristina Matiquite and Rosa Gala, the last two on loan from 1.º de Agosto.

According to the Interclube’s vice president for basketball, Edson Quixito, the group has improved in essential positions and is prepared to re-conquer the title lost in 2017 to Angola’s 1º de Agosto.

Quixito explained that it will be a difficult competition, since it is expected that the main opponents, such as Ferroviário de Maputo, Costa do Sol (both hosts) and Alexandria of Egypt, will do everything to complicate the objective of the Angolan team, which is to win the title.

Interclube are led by the Spaniard Julián Martínez, who replaced the Angolan Carlos Diniz that left the team over health reasons.

The team are the champions of the 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016 editions, being the most titled African team in the competition.

In total, Angola have nine African champion clubs trophies, including three of 1º de Agosto, absent for internal issues.

Ferroviário de Maputo are the defending champions.
