Lubango – The central Huila is to represent Angola in the third edition of the Southern African School Games to be held in Walvis Bay, Namibia on October 11 to 13, with two soccer teams, boys and girls.
In addition to Angola and Namibia, the participation of Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe has so far been confirmed, while the draw for the matches takes place Thursday.
The group from Huíla, which is representing the country for the third time, is made up of 36 athletes, 20 male and 16 female, aged between 13 and 14, all pupils from public and private schools in the municipalities of Chibia, Humpata, Lubango, Gambos and Cacula.
Speaking to ANGOP, the technical secretary of the Huíla Provincial Football Association and head of the delegation, Chara Sicato, stressed that despite not knowing their opponents, this does not inhibit them.
He pointed out that the players in the Huila national team spent 90 days preparing for their successful participation in the football tournament.
