Menongue – The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, on Sunday praised the commitment of the province's athletes, which culminated in the conquest of the 12th championship of the National School Games, in football, for the second consecutive time.
When speaking at the solemn ceremony honouring the group of students and technical team, the provincial governor said that it was a moment of celebration, not only for the medals and trophies won, but for their dedication.
He stated that participating in a competition of this kind requires much more than physical or technical skills, but it also requires a lot of discipline, resilience and above all courage to face challenges and overcome limits.
“Today we’ll celebrate not just the victories, but the path taken to reach the podium. Every training session, every sacrifice, every moment of doubts overcome was essential to achieving success. You are an example of success for everyone and have proven that young people are capable of extraordinary achievements”, he highlighted the winners.
To teachers, coaches and families, the government official congratulated them on their support and encouragement to young people during the school games.
During the championship held between the 17th and 29th of August in the province of Uíge, the province of Cuando Cubango, in addition to becoming champion in football in the women's class, with a total of five games and the same number of victories, also had the best goalkeeper in the competition, Alice Carlos, with only two goals conceded.
Young athlete Felícia Sambambi was crowned the best player in the championship.
Meanwhile, in the individual events, they also won the gold medal in the long jump, with 16-year-old athlete Maria Luciana, and in athletics the province came in 2nd place in the 300 meters and 3rd place in the 1500 meters in general, the province in general was represented by 34 athletes.
