Lobito - The rehabilitation of some infrastructures is part of a plan drawn up by the Provincial Government of Benguela, with the aim of promoting community sport, ANGOP learned Monday.

This information was provided by the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Pascoal Luís, without, however, advancing deadlines.

The official said he was carrying out a survey of sports infrastructures in cities on the province's coast, namely Lobito, Catumbela, Benguela and Baía Farta, in the first phase.

'We will identify, with the communities, those fields that require some intervention, such as earthworks, alignment, painting of beacons, posting of nets and others', he clarified.

According to Pascoal Luís, the Government intends to expand various sports in neighborhoods, thus contributing to healthy growth and adequate education for children and young people.

In the city of Lobito, one of the infrastructures visited was the 'Camuco' football field, surrounded by mountains. It is located in the Chimbuila neighborhood, in the upper part of Lobito.

The delegation found that, in that infrastructure, football had not been played for decades. It is completely degraded, with grass in some areas, and a ravine has even opened up just a few meters from that space.

The director explained that the field should benefit from rehabilitation in 2008, within the scope of the “Despontar” Project.

'At the time of CAN 2010, there was a need for intervention in the support fields for that African competition and the most accessible ones were chosen. For this reason, his rehabilitation was ineffective,' he stated.

Pascoal Luís was referring to the works carried out at the São Filipe (Benguela National) and Benguela Municipal stadiums.

'Camuco' field, designed for a municipal stadium, in the colonial era, passed 'emblematic clubs' such as Sporting do Lobito and Académica da Chirimba, today known as Académica do Lobito.

In relation to players, there emerged, from a very young age, athletes who reached the national team, such as António Lopes Chibi, Arlindo Leitão, Firmino, Sansão, Lilas and others.

On the other hand, the Electro Clube do Lobito field, previously called 'Lusitano field', is located in the urban area of the city and also needs restoration work, despite being private property.

It was quite busy during the provincial selections. It has hosted national and international games, but today it only serves as a training field for the young teams of Electro Clube do Lobito and to support other clubs, despite having some treatment, especially on the grass.

The delegation from the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports also visited other community football fields, in the neighborhoods of Alto Liro and Lixeira, and also for multidisciplinary use, such as the Sporting do Lobito pavilion.TC/CRB /DOJ
