Luanda – The 22nd round of the first division National Football Championship (Girabola2024/25) will only be played in the end of the present month due to the double round dispute of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, to be jointly organised by the USA, Mexico and Canada.
The competition was interrupted last week following a decision by the Angolan Football Federation (FAF).
Meanwhile, the National team on Thursday drew 1-1 with Libya, in Benghazi, in a gane counting for the fifth round of group D’s “scramble” to get a place for the World Championship.
The Angolan squad were losing 0-1 but managed to score the equaliser through a free kick that resulted from a foul, which was scored by Fredy.
With thisresult, Angola remain in the 4th position with 8 points.
Meanwhile, next Tuesday (25), Angola will play Cabo Verde, leaders of the group with 10points. The second place is occupied by Cameroon (9pts), then Libya (8).
With the change of schedule, Girabola’s 22nd round is set to be played on 29 and 30 March.
The championship is being led by petro de Luanda with 50 points, followed by Wiliete de Benguela (48pts), then 1º de Agosto (39).
Sagrada Esperança da Lunda Norte squad come fourth (34pts) and CD São Salvador (33pts) are fifth on the standing.
