Luanda - Petro de Luanda beat Isaac de Benguela by 3-2, on Saturday, in the country's capital, in the 17th round of the first division of the National Football Championship (Girabola2024/25), played at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, consolidating their 43 points lead.
At half-time, Petro already held a 2-0 lead, with goals scored by Julinho (38') and Brazilian Tiago Azulão (40+3'), after a perfect assist from the Honduran midfielder, Jonatã Toro.
Upon resumption, the national champions (Petro de Luanda) were more aggressive offensively, having increased the advantage through central defender Kinito (62').
Isaac woke up after benefiting from an OG from defender Vidinho (90+3') and Kinho (90+5'), intercepting a corner kick.
Under Toro's experience, the young players from the Luanda club's youth ranks, Cabaça (right-back) and Ilídio (winger), were more disruptive in the second half, getting involved in the first two goals.
In the final phase, Girabola's last-placed team, with just 9 points, wasted several opportunities, which could have allowed them to equalize the match until the referee's final whistle.
For the 18th round, Petro are to travel, on Wednesday (Feb 26), to the province of Zaire, to face CD São Salvador do Kongo, at the Álvaro Buta Stadium. Isaac de Benguela will face Kabuscorp do Palanca, at the Coqueiros Stadium in Luanda.
With this triumph, Petro de Luanda have 43 points placed first, followed by Wiliete de Benguela (35 pts), while 1°de Agosto iare 3rd with 33 pts.
