Luanda - The Disciplinary Committee of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) overturned the decision it made on January 12 to relegate Sporting de Cabinda from the national first division football championship (Girabola2023/24), after the team failed to show up in two consecutive matches.

In official communiqué No. 01/SG/24, released on Monday, the body that manages football in Angola admitted that it had made a mistake in transcribing the sentence for the match that was not disputed between Sporting de Cabinda and Desportivo da Lunda Sul.

After meeting in ordinary session, the FAF decided to correct the error in the document produced, which now reads as follows:

"Having scrutinized the match report, it is possible to ascertain that Sporting Clube de Cabinda failed to turn up, without the club in question justifying the reasons for the absence," reads the statement.

It adds that FAF regulations stipulate that the justification for not showing up at an official match needs to be requested to the FAF by the club, within two days, accompanied by proof of the facts.

The same statement said that Sporting de Cabinda were penalized for not showing up with a 3-0 defeat, fined 5,000 UCF and ordered to pay the expenses of the refereeing team.

The punishment was due to the fact that Sporting de Cabinda did not travel to Saurimo to face Desportivo da Lunda Sul in the eleventh round of the championship.

Sporting de Cabinda are bottom of Girabola2023/24 with 5 points, led by Kabuscorp do Palanca (21 points), followed by champions Petro de Luanda (17). BSV/VAB/AMP
