Luanda - The 45th edition of the national first division football championship (Girabola2022/23) set to kick off Saturday will be marked by the postponement of the match between 1 de Agosto and Cuando Cubango.
Rescheduled for Tuesday, the decision to postpone the match is due to the absence of five 1º de Agosto players that are currently representing the Under-23 national team, which dispute the qualification for the Africa Nations Cup (CAN).
The players are Aldair, Hossy, Diógenes, Bito and Ben Arfa, who helped Angola beat 2-1 Namibia on Wednesday in the first leg of the CAN qualifier.
Angola and Namibia clash Saturday again in Luanda, due to the ban the Confederation of Africa Football has imposed on Namibia's football pitch after it failed to meet requirements in terms of local conditions.
The defending champions Petro de Luanda face Desportivo da Huíla Friday in the Super Cup match in Huambo Province, which marks the official opening of the season.
The Girabola 2022/23 will be played by 16 teams.
