Luanda - The presence of Angolan coaches in the teams of  the national first division football championship (Girabola) means that clubs, especially those involved in the Afro Cups, are valuing local professionals.

Without the license A required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to sit on the bench and lead the teams in the Afro Cups, the coaches of Sagrada Esperança (Roque Sapiri), Bravos do Maquis (Mário Soares) and Desportivo da Lunda Sul (Águas Da Silva) are the perfect example of how these teams chose local coaches despite their restrictions.

Of the four Angolan representatives in African competitions, Petro de Luanda that participates in the Champions League is the only one whose coach is authorized to sit on the bench, Ricardo Chéu, a Portuguese national.

Speaking to ANGOP, Miller Gomes, a member of the Angolan Football Coaches Association (ATEFA), said the clubs made the right decision, since this is a way to preserve and safeguard local coaches.

The technical director of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) recalled that it was up to the clubs or coaches, on an individual basis, to invest in raising the category to A, so that the lack of this level of training would no longer be a constraint in CAF competitions.

Angola has a shortage of coaches with the required license (A) due to the lack of a technical board to provide training, a situation that prevailed for a long time that has now been overcome.

Zeca Amaral (Wiliete de Benguela) is the only Angolan coach with the licence A. 25 others have the license B and eight the C, Gomes said.

Regardless of the continental body's demands, Miller Gomes believes that there are Angolan coaches with recognized skills in the work they do, however they need to be upgraded from B to A category.

Aged 53, Miller Gomes represented Sporting de Luanda (1990), ASA (1991), Benfica de Luanda (1993-1995), Saneamento Rangol (1997) and Sagrada Esperança (1998).

As a coach he led Petro do Huambo (2009), Petro de Luanda (2012), Recreativo do Libolo (2013-2014) and Kabuscorp do Palanca (2015-2016). IN/MC/DAN/AMP
