Luanda - The Angola club 1º de Agosto will play Tanzania´s Simba Sports Club in Luanda, on Sunday at 4 p.m, in the first-leg encounter of the second and final knockout round of the African Football Champion Clubs Cup.
Both clubs will meet for the first time and the host 1º de Agosto have the mission to lead and win the match so that they can have advantage for the second-leg match in the opponent´s home.
A difficult game is expected for the Angolan team, which are going through a renewal phase, with a young squad, with only four competitive matches, including two for the National Championship (Girabola2022/23), where they are placed in the fifth position, with four points.
Tanzania´s Simba Sports Club, made up of experienced players, have already seven games played, five of which for the Tanzanian National League, where they occupy the first position, with 13 points.
In the space of two years, this is the second Tanzanian club that 1º de Agosto will face in African competitions, after being eliminated with a win of 3-1 and the defeat of 2-6 by the Tanzania´s Namungo FC in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2021.
To qualify for this stage, 1º de Agosto overcame the Red Arrows from Zambia with a draw of 1-1 and a win of 1-0, while the Tanzanian club beat the Malawi´s Big Bullets Football Club 2-0.
The other Angolan representative competing in the African Football Cup of Champions Clubs, Petro de Luanda, play Saturday with Cape Town City, in South Africa.
As for the Confederation Cup, also known as Nelson Mandela Cup, Sagrada Esperança will have their debut match only Saturday (4 p.m) with DRC´s FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
