Luanda – The chair of the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (FAMMA), Armando Diogo “Scott” assured that the creation of better general conditions and the expansion of the practice of the sport across all provinces will allow Angola to achieve unprecedented feats in world competitions.
In reaction to the participation of the National Youth Team, both genders, in the MMA World Championship, from the 6th to the 11th of this month, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where it won 5 medals, the leader said it was a source of pride for the country and the African continent.
In a note, which ANGOP had access to, the also known as Master Scott, states that they did not go to the World Cup to do tourism, sightseeing, play and spend the State's resources, but rather to fight for medals and dignify Angola's name.
“All our actions are for the benefit of our youth and our country. We do this for Angola and if it is not for that reason, it is useless. The joy of these kids belongs to the Angolan people, they know that the people are counting on them”, he said.
He adds that the whole of Angola followed the championship and what they deserve is recognition from the nation, when they return to the country and are able to work, accommodate themselves and, in terms of health, overcome the difficulties they are going through.
He explained that many of them risked school to be in the competition, because they believed it was possible to take the title for Angola and achieved a total of five medals, one gold and four bronze.
Likewise, the FAMMA document congratulates the “brave warriors” who overcame their performance in the previous World Cup. It highlights that, despite their efforts, our male athletes faced technical challenges and difficult decisions by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).
He mentions that the athlete Jerogesio Muachambi, despite winning two consecutive fights, was unable to hold the bronze medal, placing second in the group. Menezes Tchimuisa, in turn, won only one of his fights, not reaching the podium.
“It is a source of pride for Angola and the African continent to be the first to win five medals in a world competition in this category. We thank all Angolans who supported our athletes, who honored and represented the National Flag with dignity”, it reads.
It ends with a special thanks to the designated champions: Mayra Lemos, Stelvia Muhanha, Albertina Ntyamba, Cláudio Fontoura, Milfa Nicolau, Jerogesio Muachambi, Menezes Tchimuisa, Gizela Luna, Paulo Alfredo, Estefanio Francisco, Lucas Mendes, Dário Sousa, Ericlene Francisco and all selected athletes, but who unfortunately, for administrative reasons, were unable to participate.
The overall world medal table is led by Ukraine (33), followed by Tajikistan (23) and Uzbekistan (14), while Angola came in 12th (5).
The Angolan team is scheduled to return on Monday at 2:30 pm.
