Luanda - Angola Football Federation (FAF) appointed Friday Zeca Amaral as head-coach to lead the country’s national football team at the Cosafa Cup, to be held from July 5 to 16 in South Africa.
According to a FAF statement the link between the two sides will last until the end of the competition in which Angola has won three titles, namely in 1999, 2001 and 2004.
The 56-year old coach led the national team in 2011, further replaced by coach Lito Vidigal, who led the national team at the CHAN in Sudan.
Zeca Amaral led several teams of the country’s domestic competition with emphasis on FC Bravos do Maquis, a team he led for seven consecutive seasons since 2017.
Angola are in Group C, with Mozambique, Mauritius and Lesotho.
South Africa, Namibia, Eswatini and Botswana are in Group A, Zambia, Malawi, Seychelles and Comoros are in Group B.
The competition qualifies the best team from each group for the semi-finals, along with the runner-up. The semi-finals take place on July 14, while the final and the third-place match are played on July 16.
