Luanda - Angola Football Federation (FAF) on Monday discouraged direct approaches for gifts promises to players taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations, since it should be made through the FAF’s Communication, Marketing, Commercial and Image Department, ANGOP has learnt.
According to a FAF statement, institutions, individuals and organizations should follow this procedure to express gratitude and generosity to the group contesting in the CAN`2023 in Côte d`Ivoire.
The FAF said it considers promises of gifts to be important insofar as they motivate the players and the working group in general, however direct telephone calls to players during a period of maximum concentration distracts them and takes away the recommended concentration.
Another consequence, the federation said, is that it could disrupt the locker room.
The FAF's statement comes 24 hours after several contacts were made by national institutions to players of the Angola national football team, pledging offers for their CAN`2023 campaign.
On Sunday, athletes and members of the delegation received a five million Kwanzas gift each from the Angola Investment Bank (BAI) to be deposited in their respective bank accounts.
The chairman of the bank's Board of Directors, Mário Alberto Barber, phoned the team’s skipper to confirm that the promise had been fulfilled.
The chairman of telecommunication operator UNITEL guaranteed the players and coaching staff, via a call to striker Gilberto, the offer of a mobile phone (iPhone 15), free calls, SMS and internet for a year.
The offer was motivated by Angola's 3-0 win over Namibia, which ensured qualification for the quarter-finals.
The diamond company SODIAM has pledged 250,000 dollars to the national team and coaching staff if Angola qualifies for the final of this 34th edition of the Cup of Nations. MC/DAN/AMP
