Luanda - The break-up of motorcycling and motocross will be the highlight of the General Assembly of the Angolan Motor Sports Federation (FADM), which meets on Saturday (24), in Luanda, to address inherent issues.
Speaking to ANGOP, in the country's capital, the FADM Chairperson, Ramiro Barreira, stated that the need for national institutions to conform to international organizations led members to take the aforementioned decision to separate the specialties.
He added that the split had already been done, in an extraordinary general assembly of the FADM, on January 27, in which the members found it convenient and consensual, the creation of a new federative structure, to bring together motorcycling and motocross, passing previously, just taking care of motorsport.
He explained that after the FADM's main meeting, on Saturday, which will result in two distinct federations, the motorsport federations will follow, which will elect its governing and social bodies.
The current FADM outgoing president, Ramiro Barreira, admitted his intention to apply for the position at the motorsport institution, while for the new one in motorcycling and motocross, former pilot Marcos Rani is appointed, being the consensus figure of the class.
Motor sports in Angola, which has Luanda as its main center, also takes place in the provinces of Namíbe, Huila, Benguela and Huambo.
The country's exponent is driver Rui Andrade, who currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship, for TF Sport.
The Angolan was world champion in endurance motorsport, in the LMP2 category, for the WRT team, in the “8 Hours of Bahrain”, and also holds the European title.
