Luanda – Angola’s 1° de Agosto beat Cameroon's Nziko 46-24 on Friday in the first round of Group A of the African Women’s Handball Champions League taking place in the Republic of Congo.
At the end of the first half, the Angolan side had a 24-13 lead.
With this win the defending 1º de Agosto started with an important victory the defense of the title. The team face Congo’s Grain de Sel and Egypt’s Al Ahly in the following rounds.
The other Angolan team, Petro de Luanda beat Cameroon’s FAP 42-22 on Thursday in the opening round of the Group B.
Petro face Côte d'Ivoire Bandama and Congo’s DGSP.
1º de Agosto seek their eighth trophy, while Petro de Luanda, the most crowned team in Africa, are trying to win the twentieth title.
The competition has been held since 1979, however it took a break in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the last edition in Hammamet (Tunisia), 1º de Agosto beat Petro de Luanda 29-24 in the final. GVA /AMP
