Luanda - Angolan clubs have received $50,000 dollars from the African Football Confederation (CAF) as a contribution towards the costs of taking part in the preliminary phase of the Champions League and the African Confederation Cup (CAF).
These are Sagrada Esperança da Lunda Norte, which has qualified for the Champions League, FC Bravos do Maquis and Desportos da Lunda Sul, qualified for the CAF Cup.
Petro de Luanda, which is exempt from the preliminaries due to their position in the rankings, are not included in this benevolent measure by the continental body.
Only the teams scheduled for the preliminary stage of both African competitions benefited from this CAF constribution.
This is the first time that CAF has announced funding for clubs in this phase, scheduled for 16-18 and 23-25 August.
Previously, teams had to reach the group stage to benefit financially.
It's yet another innovation under the leadership of South African Patrice Motsepe, after having improved the overall prize money two years ago.
The prize for the champion of the Club League went from USD 2,500,000 in 2022 to USD 4,000,000, while for the CAF Cup it went from USD 1,200,000 in 2022 to USD 2,000,000.
