Luanda – Several Angolan cyclists, federated and amateur, cycled on Sunday in favor of the environment, along various arteries in the city of Luanda.
The race without the aim of bringing competitiveness among cyclists, started from Luther King square (LAC square) heading to 4 de Fevereiro Avenue, on the Luanda Bay, and was in honor of September 22nd, World Car Free Day, established in 2000.
The cyclists took advantage of the data for a journey of reflection around urban growth and the promotion of actions, such as physical exercise and the use of environmentally friendly transport, to improve people's quality of life.
The event, organized by Angolan Ecological Youth (JEA), since 2013, in partnership with the Angolan Cycling Federation (FACI), held its first edition of the cycle for the environment.
Speaking to ANGOP, at the end of the activity, with security guaranteed by the National Police, National Institute of Medical Emergency of Angola, (INEMA) and Civil Protection and Fire Services, the secretary of JEA, António Armando, said that the objective was to increase the level of awareness about the use of transport, especially negative effects of pollution on the environment.
On January 31, 1976, Angola established National Environment Day, with the aim of awakening people to the need to protect the environment.
However, World Environment Day was established in 1972, by the United Nations General Assembly, and is celebrated on June 5, with the purpose of creating a critical and active stance in relation to the environmental problems that exist on the planet.
