Benguela - Cyclist Igor Silva, from the Jair Transportes team, won this Sunday, with a time of 4h13m and 38 seconds, the 150-kilometer long-distance race of the Angola cycling tour, on the Cubal/Benguela route.
In 2nd and 3rd placed were Euclides Chingui (ACT), with a time of 4h13m39 seconds +1, and Adilson Zacarias, also from ACT in Luanda.
Bruno Araújo (Bai Sicasal Petro) and Edivaldo Serrão (Jair Transportes) occupied 4th and 5th positions, respectively.
The “mountain and best athlete prize” in the under-23 category went to Euclides Chingui (ACT), while the “best climber” was Bruno Araújo (BSP).
Meanwhile, Euclides Chingui won the white jersey again and remains the leader of the competition, while Igor Silva won the green jersey for goal midfielder and Bruno Gonçalves remains the best athlete in the junior category.
Speaking to ANGOP, Igor Silva acknowledged that it was a very difficult and complicated stage, but thanked the team that worked hard to win the race.
Igor Silva, son of the honored Alberto da Silva Pepino, made it known that the objective of this stage was to win at home to better honor his father's name, and try to manage the next stages.
Despite having won the race, he recognized the strong potential of the Bai Sicasal and ACT teams, in addition to the very compact Botswana team, which could be countered in the next races.
Athlete Bruno Araújo lamented the critical condition of the roads, which are quite potholed and are not in the right condition for this type of race.
Regarding the change in schedule, Bruno Araújo minimized the situation and guaranteed that Monday will be a difficult race, but that he will do everything he can to reach the Cycling Podium.
The Angola cycling tour, dubbed "Pepino", is in the 2nd stage, with the long-distance race, after this Saturday Euclides Chingui won the individual time trial, in the province of Huambo.
This Monday, 110 cyclists, including nationals and foreigners, will cover 170 km on the Lobito/Sumbe (Cuanza Sul) route.
