Moçâmedes - The acting governor of Namibe Province, Ema da Silva, on Wednesday, in Moçâmedes, stated that international sporting events promote tourism in the country, especially in the province.
Speaking at the opening of the 3rd edition of the first stage of the “Pepino`2024” Tour of Angola cycling race, she stated that events of this kind promote the well-being, health and also the tourism potential of the country and the province.
For Ema da Silva, it is also a great opportunity for exchange between athletes from various countries.
The official asked the participants to observe team spirit, adding that she hopes that the organization will guarantee safety and technical support for the success of the event taking place throughout Angola.
“Sport is an asset to society and a factor of national unity. Educational sport and cycling are no different, as it is a sport that creates mechanisms for circulation throughout the country”, she added.
The vice-governor thanked the Cycling Federation for choosing the province of Namibe as the venue for the event and assured that the local government will continue to support everything related to the promotion of the sport.
At the time, the chairman of the Cycling Federation, Cremilde Rangel, praised the participation of Angolan and foreign competitors, as well as recognizing the efforts of the organizers in carrying out the event.
He explained that the province of Namibe was chosen for one of the stages of the event to awaken and promote tourism, showcasing all its natural beauty such as the desert, the rare Welwitschia mirabilis plant, the beaches, the culture and its very welcoming people.
