Moçâmedes - Angola will host the African Cycling Championship in 2026, the secretary general of the African Cycling Confederation, Mohamed Bashir, announced on Wednesday in Namibe province.
Mohamed Bashir made the statement during the presentation of the national and international teams that will start the first stage of the third edition of the Volta Angola cycling race “Pepino2024” on Thursday (24).
Without going into great detail about the African race, Mohamed Bashir said the organization is currently working to ensure that the event is successfully contested with more than 20 countries.
He explained that Angola has been chosen to host the event by the African Confederation.
As for the “Pepino2024” Cycling Tour of Angola, which starts on Thursday in Moçâmedes, more than 146 cyclists from Angola and other countries are taking part.
These are representatives from host Angola, Namibia, France, Botswana, DRC, South Africa, Zimbabwe, São Tomé and Príncipe and Nigeria.
The race starts at 10 a.m. on a 5 km course.
On Friday, there will be a 130 km cross-country race, starting in Caraculo, in Bibala municipality, and heading for the neighboring province of Huila. FA/MC/AMP
