Luanda - The new chairman of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Alves Simões, made his debut in office with the National Team's defeat, against Lesotho, by 0-1, in the 2nd leg game of the last round for the qualification for the African Nations Football Championship (CHAN´2025), played on Saturday at the 11 de Novembro Stadium, in Luanda.
Alves Simões who took office five days earlier, replacing Artur Almeida e Silva, in the elections for the four-year period 2024/2028.
The FAF leader was at the VIP tribune, dressed in a red and black National Team jersey and witnessed the defeat of the national team, although they have already qualified for the continental competition, after a 2-0 lead in the first leg game.
CHAN will take place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, from 1 to 18 February 2025.
It was the third defeat recorded by the national team, after 24 matches played since January this year, including International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), qualification for the World Cup, African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Cosafa Cup.
Angola lost, for the first time, in February, in the quarter-finals of the Côte d'Ivoire AFCON, against Nigeria, by 0-1, in the FIFA match calendar, in March, against Morocco, by 0-1, and now with Leshoto, by 0-1, for the competition reserved for players who play in their respective countries.
The Palancas Negras (Sable Antelope) drew seven times and won 14 times, taking the country to 32nd place in the FIFA Ranking this season, moving from 117th to 85th place. JAD/VAB/MRA/DOJ
