Luanda – Angola seek victory against Mauritania, this Friday, in a match of the second round of group D of the African Football Championship (CHAN), that takes place in Algeria.
After the unexpected draw with Mali 3-3, in the scope of the debut game of group D, the National Football Team play again in the Orãn Olympic Stadíun, at 05.00 pm, aiming to beat the Mauritanians, so that they can lead group D, which only has three teams.
The group that is made up of three national teams, according to the rules, and only the winner of the group should advance to the quarter-finals, so it makes the match a real test of “fire” for the contenders, especially the Angolan team that drew with Mali.
Considering the draw of the first encounter, the players coached by Pedro Gonçalves are forced to increase their effort, taking into account that they will also have to wait for the result of Mali and Mauritania game, scheduled for 24 of the current month.
The Angolan team only need to obtain three points to re-launch its objectives, but certainly counting on the Mauritanians, who are also committed and with the same expectations in the continental competition, that is reserved for players who play in their countries.
In the FIFA Ranking, updated in December 2022, Angola come in the 117th position, with 1158.8 points, while Mauritania are in the 103rd position, with 1197.6, which shows a relative closeness between both teams.
Of the encounters, three matches are recorded, one win and one draw for each team, which is (4-1) for Angola on 12 October 2018, (1-0) for Mauritania on 16 October 2018 in the African Cup and (0-0) on 29 June 2019 in the Nations Cup.
This is the fourth time that Angola participate in this competition, after the 2011 edition in Sudan, in which the national team occupied the second position, losing in the final to Tunisia, by 0-3.
