Menongue - Athlete Bernardo António won on Sunday, in the city of Menongue, the second race of the motorbike championship in the province of Cuando Cubango, in the FZ 125 category.

In the 2nd and 3rd positions were Constantino António and Octávio Moisés, in a race that saw the participation of ten competitors.

In the Lingkeni categories, in which 12 competitors competed, athletes Jorge Avelino, Frederico Tchieta and Pedro Quintas reached the podium, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.

Speaking to ANGOP, at the end of the race, the Chairman of the Provincial Association of Motorized Sports in Cuando Cubango, Abias Kavuvi, said that, in addition to bringing together young people to practice a socially useful action, the objective is to continue working on the massification of modality.

“The first race was held in the municipality of Calai, even without asphalt, in order to encourage young people to have a taste for motor sport”, he highlighted.

He made it known that the municipalities of Cuchi and Cuito Cuanavale will also host some championship events, in the coming months of July and August.

Regarding the province's participation in national races, he said that, despite difficulties in terms of sponsorship, it has been positive in the supermoto and FZ categories, with a rider who holds the title of national champion in the latter category.

For the president, the provincial championship also serves to evaluate the capacity of other pilots for national races, highlighting that today there is more talk about this modality because the pilots show a lot of quality and passion for what they do, regardless of the difficulties.

On the occasion, the president launched a challenge to businesspeople in the province of Cuando Cubango to look into motor sport with the possibility of raising funds.

There are still seven races left to finish the championship, led by Bernardo António.

The last one will take place in October, during the celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of the festivities in the city of Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango. MSM/ALK/FF/PLB/TED/DOJ
