Benguela - Pre-National senior male's basketball team held training session on Monday, ahead of the 5th and last qualifying window (African zone) for the World Cup slated for to take place from 24 to 26 January at the Luanda’s pavilion.
Conducted in the coastal benguela province, the training focused on short, medium and long distance throws.
At the end of the session, the coach Josep Clarós told ANGOP that the available players have met the expectations of the technical team.
According to the coach, newcomers Agosinho Mayele (Jesus Cristo Basketball), Manuel Bumbi (CFDK) and Benção Vungo (NBA-Africa Academy) have been discharged.
“Every three day we will reduce the group to 8 players, who will join the eight or nine who play abroad”, he explained.
Josep Clarós referred that the group of athletes that evolve in the country, despite some lack of competitive experience, demonstrate good sport capacity, and can be part of the squad for the African Championship, exclusive to those who play in domestic championships.
In order to qualify for the 19th edition of the Asian World Cup, to be held in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, from August 25 to September 10 this year, the national team need at least two wins, he said.
Angola rank second in Group E, with 12 points, against 14 of the first-placed Côte d'Ivoire.
Cabo Verde and Nigeria, with eleven and ten points, respectively, are in the third and fourth places, while Uganda and Guinea, with eight points each, remain in the last two positions.
