Benguela – Interclube beat Núcleo de Benguela 62-45 on Monday in the opening game of the 36th national women's under-19 basketball championship taking place at Arena Acácias Rubras.
The competition is simultaneously taking place with the 38th edition of the Under-19 men's championship, which also takes place in Benguela from August 12 to 20.
Speaking in a post match press conference, Interclube coach, Astrida Vicente, said her team started with some fear due to the slippery surface, having considered it a good game and happiness with the victory.
Interclube Núcleo de Benguela coach, Filomeno Manuel, said that it was the first game and that some athletes were not in shape, having promised some improvements in the coming matches.
The 36th edition of the National Women's Under-19 Basketball Championship features teams from Núcleo de Benguela do Interclube, CPPL, Benfica do Lubango, 1º de Agosto, GD Interclube, Maculusso, Ferroviário de Angola, Formigas do Cazenga and Escorpião de Viana .
The 38th edition of the National Under-19 Men’s Basketball Championship includes the participation of 1º Agosto, Petro de Luanda, Formigas do Cazenga, Renascimento de Moçâmedes, Sporting, CAB, Escola da Graça, 1º de Maio de Benguela, Casa do Pessoal do Porto Lobito, Benfica do Lubango, Benfica do Sumbe, GD Interclube, Clube Ferroviário de Angola, Vila Clotilde and Sport Cunha de Malanje.
