Luanda - Angola senior men's national basketball team has once again failed qualification for the Olympic Games to be held in Paris, after conceding two defeats in the qualifying phase.
The team led by Spanish coach Pep Claros, suffered their second defeat on Thursday in the qualifying tournament taking place in Valencia (Spain), against Lebanon, 70-74, after losing their opening game against the host team 81-89, a result that makes it impossible for the Angolan team to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
Angola was playing in a Pre-Olympic tournament for the fourth time, after Caracas in Venezuela in 2012, Belgrade in 2016 and Kaunas in Lithuania in 2021.
The Angolans missed out on the 2012 (London) 2016 (Rio de Janeiro) and Tokyo (2020) Olympic Games.
Angola men's basketball has made consecutive appearances at five Olympic Games: 1992 (Barcelona), 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney), Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).
Their best finish came in their debut year in 1992, in 10th place, where they beat Spain 83 - 63. WR/AMP
