Pretoria - The Dynamo BBC team of Burundi are waiting for a decision from their government to play Petro de Luanda this Tuesday in the opening game of the third round of the Kalahari Conference of the African Basketball League (BAL), which is taking place in Pretoria, South Africa.
The team are still undergoing training, but without authorisation to wear equipment (jerseys and shorts) with the "Visit Rwanda" logo, an initiative of the sponsors of the competition, which is now in its fourth edition.
On Saturday, for the first round in which Dynamo beat Cape Town Tigers 86-73, they dressed the equipment without any prohibition.
Diplomatic tension between Burundi and Rwanda worsened in April 2015, following the contestation for the third term of the then Head of State Pierre Nkurunziza, who died in 2020.
In the second round, the Burundi team had already been defeated by Fus de Rabat on default due to their absence, which was also due to this equipment issue.
The Angolan champions, stunned on the opening day by Fus de Rabat, to whom they lost by 73-82, regained their status as conference winners against the hosts, who they beat 100-88.
Facing the Burundians, who are playing in the BAL for the first time, Petro de Luanda need a win to stay in the top two.
The round also includes the match between Cape Town Tigers and Fus de Rabat.
